Not your typical competition at City Hall

One of the competitions was picking up a brick with the knuckleboom truck

It was a competition unlike most.

  • Use a mini-excavator for a pin drop
  • Pick up a brick with the knuckleboom truck
  • Move a tennis ball with a backhoe

All contests were part of National Public Works Week at City Hall to recognize and celebrate City public works and wastewater staff and focus on their skills with City equipment.

“The City has an outstanding public works staff – skilled, hardworking and great team players,” said Jim Atkinson, city manager.  “It’s a great week to be able to honor them and show appreciation for their accomplishments.  I also appreciate the leadership of the Board of Commissioners over the past three years to strategically grow the public works capabilities. “

The winners from the Tuesday (5.22.18) matches were Bill Watkins, mini-excavator; Eddie Maharrey, knuckleboom; and Bobby Carpenter, backhoe.  The overall winner, Mr. Watkins, won a trip to the State Equipment Rodeo in Nashville this October.
