A new fundraiser by the LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) Band is introduced this week to raise monies for the 90+ students in the Band program.
The Patron of the Arts Fundraiser starts Monday (2.10.20) to allow the Booster Club to fund purchases of instruments and music, offset festival and competition fees, host symposiums with world-renowned clinicians and present performances throughout the year, said Melissa Forbes, Booster vice-president.
“The boosters would appreciate your financial support and in recognition of your contribution, your name and corresponding donation level will be listed in the band programs for all remaining performances this school year,” said Mrs. Forbes.

Brent Hopper, LMPS band director, said, “The band booster organization for LMPS is a crucial part of the success of our quickly growing band program. The financial assistance they provide helps the band purchase high quality instruments as well as provide world class experiences for our students.” 
In 2019, the band boosters purchased a sound system for the band room. The band booster organization has also helped purchase new instruments for the band.
“Our goal is provide Mr. Hopper the additional tools not covered with school funding that he needs to make our band program one of the best in the region,” said Mrs. Forbes.
The primary goal for this year is to raise funds to purchase items on Mr. Hopper’s wish list, said Mrs. Forbes. This year there are over ninety students in the middle school program. The band program at LMPS is one of the fastest growing organizations at the school and instruments are needed to fill the needs for projected growth in the next year or two. The current wish list includes additional tubas and euphoniums, the largest timpani which will complete the set, a bass clarinet, vibraphone, French horns and other expensive items needed for the growing band program.

Indicate how you would like your name or business name to appear in concert programs, said Mrs. Forbes.
The fundraiser ends March 2nd but donations can be accepted at any time.
The Band’s Blast from the Past Concert will be May 5th. “Dust off your trumpet, saxophone, clarinet or drum sticks and plan to join the Band for a fun evening of music. This annual event is a great time to bring the community together. Music will be distributed in advance so that you can practice. There will also be several evening practices in the weeks leading up to the concert,” according to Mrs. Forbes.
