Lakeland Prep Music Department Goes To Atlanta

LPS students and teachers at Six Flags outside of Atlanta.

by Wesley Wright

This past weekend a little over 100 LPS students from the Choir, Band and Orchestra programs at LPS made their way to Atlanta, Georgia to showcase their talents in the 2023 Music in the Parks Festival. The first stop was at the world-famous Buc-ee’s and it was a hit with the kids and adults alike. After an hour of eating and shopping in what seemed like the world’s largest gas station the caravan of three buses journeyed for a few more hours and spent the evening at Medieval Times for dinner and a show. Those present were entertained with horse-riding, jousting, theater, and a host of other acts that culminated with six knights fighting for the honor of their kingdom.

After hotel check-in, three or four hours of rest and breakfast, the performing ensembles departed for morning competition. All students represented Lakeland Preparatory School extremely well. The remainder of the day was spent at the amusement park Six Flags Over Georgia. After hours of enjoying the park with friends they convened at the amphitheater for the awards ceremony and it was not a disappointment. The LPS Treble Choir received excellent marks and both the LPS Band and Orchestra received Superior marks from the judges. It was a brief but life enriching and memorable trip for the students.
