The Lake District flag

It is The Lake District (TLD) logo flag, flying atop a bucket truck today (2.17.20) 80-feet in the air and simulating a 70-foot tower sign proposed for the 160-acre mixed-use development at I-40 and Canada Road in Lakeland.

Developer and owner of The Lake District, Yehuda Netanel, submitted a 33-page sign package for his development to the Municipal Planning/Design Review Commission at a work session Feb. 5th, including the tower sign.

Eliciting much conversation from both the MPC/DRC and members of the audience was the proposed tower sign.  It is to be backlit with a slowly rotating TLD logo at the top and the word “Lakeland” spelled vertically on the tower and be placed near the interstate.  MPC/DRC members had concerns about the visibility of the tower, its adherence to City sign ordinances and the brightness of the lighting.  The sign package also addresses building, door, window, roof and monument signs throughout the development.

In an effort to quell concern about visibility of the tower sign, Mr. Netanel said he would provide balloons on a tether or a ball on a crane to demonstrate the tower sign height in relation to surroundings.  Today, a bucket truck was parked on the property in the area of the tower sign.  Total height of the crane and flag is 80-feet, 10 feet higher than the proposed tower sign.
