School System Looking For High School Vice Principal

High school construction continues. The high school opens in August 2022.

With the opening of Lakeland’s first high school less than 18 months away, Lakeland School System is already looking for a Vice Principal to lead the transition into the future. The High School Vice Principal position is critical according to Superintendent Dr. Ted Horrell since that individual will oversee everything from academics to athletics at the high school level.

The school system has already budgeted for the position to be filled a year ahead of the 9th-grade class entering the school in August of 2022. This will allow ample opportunity for the Vice Principal to plan, prepare and interact with parents and the community. That interaction will help shape what classes, programs, and sports will be offered at Lakeland Prep.

The school system plans to move quickly and has already seen high interest in the new high school opportunity. “We’re really excited about the quality and quantity of applicants we’re seeing so far,” said Dr. Horrell. He continued saying, “Next week we’ll vet the applications and we hope to begin the first round of interviews the following week.”

According to the posting, the Vice Principal’s job goal will be to “provide leadership in the development, implementation and coordination of successful instructional, fine arts, and athletic programs in grades 9-12 and to recommend steps necessary to achieve such programs.”
