Parks & Recreation Month – Community Activities Offered In July

The City of Lakeland Parks & Recreation Department is celebrating National Parks & Rec month by offering activities all month long for the community.  Activities offered are kickball, ultimate frisbee, whiffle ball and a water night.  The celebration kicks off this Friday night, July 9th, with kickball!

These activities are free to all ages and will be held at the City of Lakeland City Hall park on the North practice fields, with the exception of water night, which will be held at the new Oak Ridge Park in the Herons Ridge subdivision.

Evan Johnson, Recreation Program Supervisor with the City, said the sports will be “pickup style where people come, teams are divided either by us or by people picking teams, and then a game is played.”  He also stated that depending on the number of people who show up, there can be more than one game going at once.  “All in all, we intend for these community nights to be family-friendly nights of fun competition for any age,” Evan commented.

Refreshments will not be provided, so participants are encouraged to bring their own water.  Activities begin at 6:00 and conclude at 7:30.  The schedule for the month is as follows:

July 9 – Kickball
July 15 – Ultimate Frisbee
July 23 – Whiffle Ball
July 29 – Water Night
