November 2022 BOC Work Session Preview

Lakeland City Hall, File Photo

Up for approval at the Board of Commissioners (BOC) this Thursday evening are anticipated items like a contract with SSR for CEI Services for the New Canada Road Project. We expect more details about that project very soon. Also approving the continuation of the design and engineering for the Lakeland Athletic Complex, Phase II with Barge Design Solutions, Inc. is on the agenda. This item has remained one of the more complex topics due to environmental constraints such as wetlands and terrain.

Also on the agenda is a resolution sponsored by Mayor Cunningham proposing the modification of compensation for the Lakeland Board of Commissioners. It states: “SECTION 1: The compensation for the Mayor of the City of Lakeland shall be set at nine thousand dollars ($9,000) annually or seven hundred fifty dollars ($750)
monthly, beginning with the 2022 – 2026 term of office.
SECTION 2: The compensation for each Commissioner of the City of Lakeland shall be set at seven thousand two hundred dollars ($7,200) annually or six hundred dollars ($600) monthly, beginning with the 2022 – 2026 term of office for the two Commissioner seats to be elected in 2022, and beginning with the 2024
– 2028 term of office for the two Commissioner seats to be elected in 2024.”

Furthermore, there is also “Discussion and Possible Action on forming a committee of citizens to research options for changing the City of Lakeland’s charter and form of government to be more representative of the City’s current and projected growth.” This is also Sponsored by Mayor Cunningham. This item did not contain an attachment so it remains to be seen what that will entail.
