The Shelby County Health Department is scheduled to conduct mosquito-control spraying in Lakeland on Thursday, August 27, as part of an ongoing effort to reduce mosquito populations capable of transmitting West Nile virus.
The truck-mounted spraying is part of the county’s mosquito surveillance and control program. Health Department officials routinely trap and test mosquitoes throughout Shelby County and prioritize treatment in areas where West Nile virus has been detected.
Three human cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Shelby County so far in 2026.
Thursday’s treatment area will include Lakeland as well as a large portion of northeastern Shelby County. Weather permitting, crews will use EPA-approved insecticides to treat areas where mosquito activity poses an increased risk.
