The LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) two orchestras presented their “Sweet Music!” Spring Concert and dessert reception last night (5.10.18) in the middle school cafetorium.

About 150 families and friends gathered to hear both the Beginning Orchestra with 16 members and the Performing Orchestra, 23 members.  Paula Bert Turner is the Orchestra director.

See videos clips of both Orchestras:

Pieces chosen for the Beginning Orchestra were:

  • Entry of the Tumblers – Elliot Del Borgo
  • A Beethoven Lullaby, Air on Ode to Joy – Brian Balmages
  • King’s Court – Susan H. Day

The Performing Orchestra played:

  • Brandenburg Concerto, No. 5, (1st Mvt abridged) – S. Bach/arr. Merle J. Isaac
  • Misty Cavern – James Kazik
  • Isle of Skye (Highland Dance) – Doris Gazda
  • Stone Mountain Stomp – Carl Strommen

After the performances, guests and students were invited to partake of the dessert reception of ice cream sundaes and other sweet treats.

This is the first year for spring musical concerts.   The middle school opened to students, grades 5-8, in August 2017.  Lakeland Elementary School serves grades K-4.  Lakeland students go to Arlington High School through an interlocal agreement until a high school can be built in Lakeland.
