LES Canned Food Drive Is A Success

The Lakeland Elementary School PTA held a canned food drive last week to benefit the Mid-South Food Bank.  The event, called “Fill Your Feather” used posters of feathers and donation boxes placed in the hallways.  Donations were accepted from November 15-19 and progress was tracked daily as students brought in non-perishable items.

There was stiff competition between the kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades with the three grades all coming in within 5 cans of each other!  Kindergarten edged out with 621 cans donated.  The winning grade earned extra recess and a special treat from the PTA.  Most important, LES donated a whopping 2,523lbs of food to the Mid-South Food Bank!  The Mid-South food bank picked up all items on Friday Nov 19, 2021.

Tiffany Maclin, VP of Programs for the PTA, said, “I couldn’t have done it without the help of the school staff, administrators, teachers, and the best volunteers and students around!! We counted and moved 2,820 cans!”
