Lakeland Town Square, the 45 million multi-use development located at Highway 70 and Seed Tick Rd, is officially coming to life. The planned development provides an integrated town center with commercial and residential uses in close proximity to one another.

Vince Smith, the developer for the 42-acre project, told Lakeland Currents residents have started to move in even while construction continues on other parts of the property. “We currently have leases for over 40 residential units and about 12 of those residents moved in over the weekend,” Mr. Smith said.

According to Candice Lindsey, Regional Manager for Multi-South Management Company, current units are 1 and 2 bedrooms with a starting rent of $1,750.00 per month. Mrs. Lindsey said future units will offer even more variation saying, “Phase 2 will have 1, 2 and 3 bedroom options, along with 3 story townhomes.”

When asked about the retail aspect of the property Mr. Smith said he hopes to make more retail announcements soon. Some retail announcements for Phase 1 have already been made, including Margaritas Restaurant, Carrington Oaks Coffeehouse, The Exercise Coach, Shades of Nails and Spa, and Fields Insurance. The commercial openings for the project had a fall of 2021 target date and Mr. Smith thinks that is still very viable. “(All of) Phase 1 should be completed and open around Thanksgiving, including retail,” Mr. Smith said.

The Memphis-based developer thinks the town square concept is something that will grow over time and make area residents proud. “This is a homegrown development. Most of the retail tenants live in Lakeland. Our manager lives in Lakeland and our two assistant managers will live on the property,” the developer said.

Residents will continue moving in over the next several weeks.
