Last week the Lakeland Board of Education recognized Stacey Cartwright for being named the Tennessee School Board Association (TSBA) Volunteer of the Year for the Delta District, which includes Shelby County and much of southwest Tennessee.

According to the TSBA website, this award “recognizes school district volunteers from across the state who have distinguished themselves by demonstrating exceptional commitment to volunteerism in a local school district.”

In a Facebook post by the Lakeland School System, Mrs. Cartwright was described as a “tireless volunteer and friend to Lakeland School System and is a model of student-centered service.”

Mrs. Cartwright has been actively involved in the Lakeland Prep PTO as VP of Hospitality.  This position included coordinating Teacher Appreciation Week, TCAP treats for students and FUN Friday concession stand days, among other duties.  She also served as VP on the Choir Booster Club and Treasurer of the Football Booster Club, which involved getting concessions set up when they built their new concessions facility last year.  She says, “I really filled in for whatever club or spot that needed it and enjoyed every moment.”

Mrs. Cartwright and her husband have 1 daughter, 2 sons, and her newest treasure – a baby granddaughter.  The boys are students at LPS and have chosen to learn remotely this year due to Covid-19.  She says, “Volunteering is a true passion and heart gift.  Finding that gift and giving it away as much as possible is success.”
