Lakeland resident Chris Thomas wins his race in primary election

One of the two Lakeland residents running for public office in the May 1 primary election advances to the county general and state primary Aug. 2.

Chris Thomas won the Republican seat for probate court clerk with 14,286 votes, according to the Shelby County Election Commission website.  Paul C. Boyd received 9,920 votes and George Summers, 2,674.

Mr. Thomas will face Democrat Bill Morrison in August.

Bennie Cobb, the second Lakeland resident running for office, was unsuccessful in his bid against Floyd Bonner who won the Democrat position for Shelby County Sheriff with 31,765 votes.  Mr. Cobb received 10,970 votes.  Mr. Bonner goes against Republican Dale Lane Aug. 2.
