Lakeland Public Works Monitoring Winter Weather

Could winter weather be on the horizon in Lakeland?

With Lakeland being part of the ice storm warning issued by the National Weather Service today, dangerous roads looks to be a possibility. Wintery weather is expected in some form this evening, and more could be headed to the area through the weekend. City officials wants residents to know the Lakeland Public Works department is monitoring the weather and they have a plan in place should local roads need attention.

According to City Engineer, Emily Harrell, the city is prepared to treat the main thoroughfares in Lakeland. “Public Works will monitor the weather and road conditions to determine the best treatment for roads.” Mrs. Harrell continued saying, “We will apply a sand/salt mixture after the ice or snow has fallen on all of the main roads. We may also pretreat the roads with a brine mixture, however if it rains the mixture will wash off.”
