Lakeland Prep To Offer Tailgating Before First Football Game

A new era is underway at Lakeland Preparatory School, and our community is celebrating in a big way.

To mark its first full academic year as a complete 9th through 12th grade high school, Lakeland Prep will host its inaugural High School Football Tailgate on Friday, August 29, ahead of the Lions’ home game under the lights against Bolivar Central. The event, organized by the Lakeland Prep PTO, is more than just a pre-game party—it’s a milestone celebration for the school, the city, and the students who are now part of a complete K–12 educational experience in Lakeland. “There is nothing like the community we have here in Lakeland,” said Principal Corrie Martin. “This event is a way to celebrate this historic year at Lakeland Prep. Every cheer, dunk, and roar will help us build a legacy for years to come!”

The tailgate will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM on the Lakeland Prep campus, with the Lions’ kickoff following at 7:00 PM.

Tailgate Highlights Include:

  • Dunk Tank: Watch Principal Martin dunk Mayor Josh Roman to open the festivities.
  • Live DJ: High-energy music to keep the vibe upbeat.
  • Human Slot Machine: A fun, interactive crowd favorite.
  • Photo Opportunities: Snap a selfie with LPS cheerleaders and surprise local mascots.
  • Spirit Swag Booths: Stock up on Lakeland Prep gear.
  • Games & Activities: Entertainment for Lions of every age.
  • Pep Rally Moments: Cheer on the team with the whole community.

The event is sponsored by the City of Lakeland, whose ongoing support has been instrumental in the school system’s growth.  “This is an exciting way for the whole community to start celebrating the completion of our school system—culminating with our first graduation,” said Lakeland Mayor Josh Roman. With only six tailgate spots still available, the event is expected to draw a large crowd of students, families, and local fans. Organizers encourage attendees to wear their Lakeland Blue and bring their school spirit as the Lions kick off a historic school year.
