Lakeland Chamber Honors Local Achievements At Annual Awards Ceremony

In an afternoon filled with recognition and celebration, Brittney Buchanan, Executive Director, and Will Ashworth, President, alongside other dedicated members of the Lakeland Chamber, showcased their commitment to supporting local businesses and achieving a myriad of community goals. The awards ceremony, held earlier this week at the Lakeland Golf Club, served as a platform to acknowledge contributors, and highlight outstanding achievements.

The awards ceremony recognized individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the Lakeland community. Mari Authement, of Victory Lane BBQ, received the Outstanding Community Partner award for exemplary collaboration and support. Cindy Norman, representing Leaders Credit Union, was named Ambassador of the Year, acknowledging her longstanding support as one of the Chamber’s initial ambassadors.

The Lakeland Elementary PTA was honored as Outstanding Non-Profit of the Year, commending their exceptional growth and leadership in the community, serving as a vital catalyst for the success of Lakeland schools. Villa Castrioti Lakeland secured the Business of the Year award for establishing a robust and reliable relationship within the Lakeland community. The Person of the Year title was bestowed upon Michael Walker, Lakeland City Manager, recognizing his leadership and dedication to the city’s growth. Walker, who transitioned from Finance and Human Resources Director to City Manager in August 2022, has been helpful pioneering ideas within the community.

The evening’s guest speaker, Mick Wright, provided a comprehensive update on his goals for 2024. Wright, a member of the Shelby County Board of Commissioners since 2018, represents District 3, covering all voting precincts in Bartlett and Lakeland. His insights and perspectives added an enriching dimension to the event, leaving attendees inspired and informed about the future trajectory of the Lakeland community.

The Lakeland Chamber also provided the annual golf tournament fundraiser funds of $17,158.98 to Lakeland schools boosters who contribute to the support of children and their extracurricular activities. Representatives for Volleyball, Basketball, and Football Boosters were in attendance as the eagerly awaited announcement of funds raised. The funds were earmarked for a weight room upgrade benefitting all athletes.

Adding to the ambiance for the event, the LPS String Quartet, under the direction of Ms. Robyn Green, played for the audience, while McDonald’s played a pivotal role as the luncheon sponsor.
