Kevin Hyneman, Local Developer, Passes Away

Developing Story…

Kevin Hyneman, a well known local developer with offices in Nashville and Memphis, and the son of developer John Hyneman has passed away at age 58 from an apparent heart attack. His brother, Rusty Hyneman, passed away in December of 2020 after a long battle with cancer.

Mr. Kevin Hyneman was heavily involved in land development in Lakeland. Over the years he has worked on various renditions of a large neighborhood development that would be located between Oakwood Grove and the Estates of Chambers Chapel. The various plans have never been approved and a new version was supposed to come before the MPC (Municipal Planning Commission) last week. However, there was not a quorum so the meeting was postponed.

Mr. Hyneman also owns and has worked on multiple plans for the 100 acres at the corner of Canada Road and Beverly Riviera Road. The developer has discussed multiple ideas for that large piece of property, including a possible mixed-used project but nothing has been publicly presented. However, according to Lakeland Commissioner Jim Atkinson, a new plan was supposed to be presented at the upcoming MPC meeting in June. No word as of yet if those plans will still be pursued.
