Is Lakeland Going To Lose Water? No, Says City Officials.

A rumor making the rounds in Lakeland the morning of Friday, February 19 claimed that MLGW would be shutting off water to Lakeland (and some surrounding areas) due to low water pressure. That’s simply not true according to both MLGW and city officials.

Commissioner Jim Atkinson confirmed for Lakeland Currents he had not been told of any such plans and Lakeland City Manager Shane Horn confirmed the same thing.

Mr. Horn told Lakeland Currents, “I was just on a briefing this morning and there is no validity that water is going to be shut down and filling up bathtubs to store water could exacerbate the problem.  MLGW will continue to make improvements to their system over the weekend.” He continued with, “once the pressure is sufficient, the water will need to be sampled and retested before the boil notice is removed.  It is currently projected for early next week.”

While contaminants have not been found in drinking water, the MLGW boil notice is still advised for all Lakeland residents. They are also asking residents to conserve water if possible until systems are normal once again, hopefully by next week.
