Inaugural Student v Faculty Game A Huge Success

By Matt Wright

In what looks to be an annual tradition on the Lakeland Prep campus in coming years, the LMPS 8th graders took on the school faculty in front of a packed gym Friday afternoon. The school PTO put on the event as a fundraiser for the upcoming 8th grade formal. Parent Cindy Brock made the suggestion for a game after seeing how big of a success it’s been at PDS. PDS (Presbyterian Day School) is the feeder school for MUS and Mrs. Brock is a teacher there.

Tickets for the event were $3 if you purchased before the game, and $5 at the gate. Talking to school officials it was estimated that at least 500 attended including, students, faculty, family members and friends.

To this reporters surprise the Lakeland Prep faculty handled the Lion students with an uptempo pace the entire game defeating the students 65-42. The officiating was at times horrendous but the officials seems to think they did okay. But in the end it didn’t matter. Mr. Robert Moore (school maintenance) was simply too much to handle and while stats are unofficial I would estimate he scored at least 27 points. After the game students rushed the floor chanting “MVP! MVP! MVP!” surrounding Mr. Moore.

The officiating was okay at best.

Dr. Ted Horrell, Superintendent of Lakeland Schools said, “This game was a great example of the fun, positive culture we’re so proud of at LMPS. The student and teacher participation was tremendous, and it was clear everyone was enjoying themselves. We’re so grateful for the parents and staff who spearheaded this event.”
