Fall back tomorrow morning (11.3.19) as Daylight Saving Time ends in most areas of the U.S. including Lakeland at 2 a.m. Sunday. Set your clocks back one hour before bed tonight. Replace the batteries in your smoke detector and push the “test” button to be sure it’s working properly.
The next time switch will be 2 a.m. March 8th when you will spring forward to DST once again.

A DST bill passed in Tennessee this spring and was signed by Gov. Bill Lee May 21st. It would establish DST as standard time. It is subject to authorization by the U.S. Congress and would begin the first Sunday of November following compliance of three requirements:
- The United States Congress authorizing stats to observe daylight savings time year round.
- The commissioner of transportation certifying in writing to the speakers of the Senate and the House of Representatives the congressional action described in #1.
- The general assembly, by joint resolution, confirming the congressional action described in #1 and authorizing the implementation of the state’s observation of daylight saving time year round.
Congress would have to amend the Uniform Time Act of 1966. In addition to Tennessee, Florida and Washington have enacted permanent DST legislation.
However, Sen. Paul Rose said, “There has been no action by the U.S. Congress since March. “Florida Sen. Marco Rubio introduced legislation this session called the ‘Sunshine Protection Act of 2019’ that would do just that. The bill has been sitting in the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee since March.”
