Dr. Ted Horrell, Superintendent for Lakeland School System, was selected as the Tennessee Superintendent of the Year this weekend by the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents. The award was presented at the organization’s annual meeting held in Gatlinburg over the weekend.
Dr. Horrell said, “I’m so honored and humbled for the opportunity to represent Lakeland and Tennessee in the next level of the competition, and I’m grateful for all of the support I’ve received from the Lakeland School Board and community.”
Dr. Horrell was hired in December of 2013 as the first Superintendent of the brand new Lakeland School System. Since then he’s be charged with overseeing the growth of the school system and is in the process of completing it’s goal of becoming a K through 12 system.
Kevin Floyd, Chairman of the Lakeland School Board told Lakeland Currents how important Dr. Horrell has been to the success of Lakeland schools. “We are extremely excited for Dr. Horrell. He has a passion for education and it shows daily in the operation of our schools. His vision and leadership have been integral to the success of our school system. This is truly a well deserved honor,” Mr. Floyd said.
