Come to Tree Day 2020 in Lakeland

Lakeland is participating in Tennessee Tree Day with a ceremony at 9 a.m. March 21st at Plantation Hills Park on Bluebird Cove, according to Alejandra Arriaga, Lakeland staff engineer.

She said a riparian stream buffer will be restored by planting 100 tree seedlings at the site. “People are welcome to join us for the event.”

Tennessee Tree Day is America’s largest single-day tree-planting event. Order tree seedlings by Sunday (3.8.20) at the following link: https://www.tectn.org/tennesseetreeday.html

Since 2007 the project has involved over 60,000 Tennessee residents planting 637,100 native trees in Tennessee and beyond.

According to the Tennessee Environmental Council, the plan this year is to engage 20,000 volunteers to plant trees in all 95 Tennessee counties as well as neighboring counties.

The purpose of this activity is to instill public awareness of the value of trees, improve the health of the environment and communities through the multitude of benefits trees offer, and to nurture a culture of sustainability in the region.
