Citywide Yard Sale Set For April 17th

It’s Spring Cleaning time!  April 17th is the date that has been chosen for the citywide Lakeland yard sale.  The yard sale, held twice a year, is coordinated by Commissioner Wesley Wright, via the Nextdoor app and Facebook.  Options for dates are presented and voted on by Lakeland residents and then a date is chosen.  There is a sale in the spring and fall.

Commissioner Wright noticed an interest in the sales shortly after moving to Lakeland in 2014 and decided to use social media for organization and promotion.  He said, “Participation has grown over the years and has reached as many as 200 homes in previous years.  The last 3 years we’ve used a mapping system where people can send me their address where they are compiled and mapped.”

At least 50 participants are expected for the April 17th sale, but Commissioner Wright expects this number to increase over the next couple of weeks.  In years past, there have been food trucks in various locations.  Wright said, “I’m hoping to see some placed along thoroughfares that would help benefit some of our small businesses and provide refreshment for yard sale participants.”
