ALDI Looking To Open January 2021

ALDI, October 20, 2020

After favorable weather conditions in late summer and this fall, the ALDI grocery store located on the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 64 and Canada Road is now more than halfway thru the construction process. The Lakeland store is located directly between McDonald’s and Krystal’s Hamburgers.

According to Commissioner Wesley Wright, ALDI is now expected to open in January 2021, with ALDI officials targeting January 6 as the first official day for business operations.

A much-requested addition to Lakeland, ALDI will be the 2nd grocery store located in Lakeland. The other grocery being Sprouts, which is also located on Highway 64 near Stonebridge. A third grocery store, The Stock Market, is planned and currently under construction at The Lake District. Revenue projections from ALDI are estimated to be at least $250,000 in annual property and sales tax revenue to the city of Lakeland.

A Long Awaited Project

When the news of ALDI became public in June of 2019, Vice Mayor Josh Roman provided insight into the development saying, “This project goes back last year (2018) to my stint as liaison on the EDC (Economic Development Council) and IDB (Industrial Development Board).” He added, “We’re excited Aldi sees the value in choosing Lakeland for its next location. We’re growing and they want to be part of our exciting city.”

Commissioner Wesley Wright added, “We’ve always known this was a smart move since this is a product many citizens asked me about. We’ve worked hard over the past 4 or 5 years to create a positive business environment and developers want to be a part of Lakeland’s future.”
