Tonight (December 1, 20200), the City of Lakeland will begin afresh with a different Board of Commissioners. Newly elected Commissioner Connie McCarter and reelected Commissioner/Vice-Mayor Michele Dial will be sworn in along with newly elected Mayor Josh Roman. All candidates ran unopposed in the latest election held in November. They will join Commissioner Jim Atkinson and Commissioner Wesley Wright for the first official meeting as the Board of Commissioners. With new leadership Lakeland will also see a change in personnel on several volunteer boards such as the municipal planning commission (MPC).

On the agenda for this evening there will be a presentation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year which ended on June 30, 2022. The accounting firm Watkins Uiberall will give the presentation. Also, the November Shelby County Sheriff Office Crime Report will be presented and met with increased interest because of the increased car break-ins in the area.

Also on the agenda is the amending of the terms of office for the existing directors of the Industrial Development Board for Lakeland as well as authorizing appointments to the Board of Appeals / Storm Water Board of Appeals.

Finally, also of note, an agenda item approving annual bonus payments to City of Lakeland employees is expected to be discussed which would provide a bonus for full-time and part-time employees of the city.
