The Memphis Symphony Orchestra will return to Lakeland this Christmas season for a special performance of Handel’s Messiah, continuing its growing relationship with the Lakeland community.
The concert is scheduled for Wednesday, December 23, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lakeland. Memphis Symphony Music Director Robert Moody will conduct, with the Memphis Symphony Chamber Chorus also participating in the performance.
The concert will bring one of the most enduring works of the Christmas season directly to Lakeland. Handel’s Messiah, highlighted by the celebrated “Hallelujah Chorus,” has long been part of the Memphis Symphony’s holiday tradition.
The Memphis Symphony has made several appearances in Lakeland in recent years. In May 2024, the Lakeland Arts Council brought the Memphis Symphony Big Band to Delta Blues Winery for the inaugural Night of Enchantment, drawing hundreds for an evening of live music.
The Symphony returned later that year when an MSO quartet performed at the Lakeland Arts & Crafts Festival at Lakeland Town Square in October.
The December 23 performance will bring the Symphony back to Lakeland for another major performing arts event and offer residents an opportunity to experience one of the region’s premier arts organizations close to home.
Organizers say additional details about the December performance will be announced as the event approaches.
