Lakeland Prep Students Excel at State DECA Conference

Students from Lakeland Preparatory School delivered an outstanding performance at this year’s DECA State Career Development Conference (SCDC) held on February 27 in Chattanooga, demonstrating academic excellence and leadership on a statewide stage. The annual event brings together Tennessee’s top students in business, marketing, finance, hospitality, and entrepreneurship to compete and showcase their skills.

Lakeland Prep was well represented, with 54 students competing across a range of events and four additional students participating in the conference’s Leadership Academy. The strong showing reflects the continued growth and momentum of the school’s DECA program.

Three Lakeland Prep entries earned advancement to the prestigious International Career Development Conference (ICDC), scheduled for April 25–28 in Atlanta. Kate Sheridan and Kylie Davis qualified in Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making and also achieved a Top 3 overall exam score. Cullen Hutchens and Hayden Hughes advanced in Financial Services Team Decision Making, while Alexa Harmon secured qualification in Sports and Entertainment Marketing.

Several students also captured individual medal honors. Eileen Perez earned 1st Place in Role Play. Aubrey Frye claimed 1st Place in Role Play and 2nd Place on the exam. Advancement in DECA competition is determined by a combined overall score, with role play accounting for two-thirds and the written exam one-third, underscoring the significance of these accomplishments.

In addition to student recognition, Mrs. Elser was awarded the Sandra Askew Memorial Scholarship during the conference’s opening session, honoring her dedication to developing student leaders. Aubrey Frye was also named one of only seven recipients of the Emerging Leader Scholarship, presented to graduating seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership and a clear vision for their future.

Lakeland Prep’s success at the state conference highlights the school’s continued commitment to real-world learning experiences and leadership development, positioning its students for ongoing achievement at the national level.
