COVID numbers for July 6, 2020 – Free masks still available in Lakeland

Statistics released today (7.6.20) for COVID-19 by the Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) include: 12,019 confirmed and probable cases (+190 newly confirmed today): 7,509 recovered (62.5); 4,310 current (35.9%); and 200 deceased, (1.7%). There have been 142,416 total tested in Shelby County, 92% negative, 8% positive.  The percent of overall testing positivity rate in Shelby is 8.4.

Among nursing homes and facilities which serve vulnerable populations, the death toll remains at 66. There have been no deaths reported from the Shelby County Division of Corrections and one employee death at the Shelby County Jail/201 Poplar Ave.

Mask directive in Shelby County

On July 3rd, the SCHD issued a Health Order and Directive regarding masks and cloth face coverings, which may be viewed at www.shelbytnhealth.com/healthdirectives. The Order and Directive requires the use of masks or cloth facial coverings in most public settings by all persons in Shelby County with the exceptions of children age two or younger and persons who cannot tolerate facial coverings because of certain medical conditions.

The masks may be picked up, while supplies last, at all Shelby County Health Department locations listed below during the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with the exception of the Collierville clinic, which is open Tuesday and Thursday only. No appointment is needed to pick up a mask.

Free masks, both cloth and disposable, are available at Lakeland City Hall, 10001 U.S. Highway 70, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, according to Tammi Ware-Staggs, Lakeland receptionist/administrative assistant/court clerk

The Health Department’s hotline number is 833-943-1658 and is answered daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  After-hours calls are returned on the next business day.  Total calls received since the line was activated March 12th:  7,347; total calls yesterday 17.
