June 17th report on COVID-19 numbers

Statistics released today (6.17.20) for COVID-19 in the community include:  7,244 cases: 4,943 recovered (68.2%); 2,155 current (29.7%); and 146 deceased (2.0%).  There have been 101,532 tested in Shelby County: 92.9% negative and 7.1% positive. There have been 62 deaths among nursing homes and vulnerable population facilities including 23 at Quince Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, LLC.   This information is from Joan Carr, public information officer for the SCHD.

Yesterday the Memphis City Council approved an ordinance by a 9-4 vote requiring face masks in places of business, inside public buildings and in medical facilities.   It does not affect areas outside Memphis city limits.  It was enacted a day after the City of Memphis/Shelby County Joint COVID Task Force announced a delay to enter Phase 3 of the Back-to-Business Framework. The largest increase of COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, 256, was reported Monday.

The Health Department’s hotline number is 833-943-1658 and is answered daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  After-hours calls are returned on the next business day.  Since its inception March 12th, 6,175 calls have been received with 89 calls answered yesterday.
