Statistics released today (6.17.20) for COVID-19 in the community include: 7,244 cases: 4,943 recovered (68.2%); 2,155 current (29.7%); and 146 deceased (2.0%). There have been 101,532 tested in Shelby County: 92.9% negative and 7.1% positive. There have been 62 deaths among nursing homes and vulnerable population facilities including 23 at Quince Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, LLC. Yesterday the Memphis City Council approved an ordinance by a 9-4 vote requiring face masks in places of business, inside public buildings and in medical facilities. It does not affect areas outside Memphis city limits. It was enacted a day after the City of Memphis/Shelby County Joint COVID Task Force announced a delay to enter Phase 3 of the Back-to-Business Framework. The largest increase of COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, 256, was reported Monday.

The Health Department’s hotline number is 833-943-1658 and is answered daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After-hours calls are returned on the next business day. Since its inception March 12th, 6,175 calls have been received with 89 calls answered yesterday.
