Tammy Cartwright is taking her flag-waving parade to Stonebridge tomorrow morning (4.4.20)..
The school crossing guard at Lakeland Elementary School (LES) is joining with three other school crossing guards to wave to the children she routinely sees at school, but who are “Safer at Home” because of COVID-19 and school closures.
Impromptu Parade in Lakeland
Sat. April 4th – Starting about 11:30 a.m.
Driving down Fletcher Trace Parkway & Davies Plantation Road
Sunday (3.29.29), Mrs. Tammy, as she is known to her students, rode in her Rhino Gray Jeep Wrangler through Oakwood and Herons Ridge neighborhoods, holding a gigantic American flag as she stood through the Jeep’s open roof.
She said she just wants to reassure the students everything will be ok and boost their spirits.
Because of Governor Bill Lee’s announcement yesterday of Executive Order 23 requiring that Tennesseans stay home unless they are carrying out essential activities, Mrs. Cartwright checked with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) before planning the parade.
Sgt. Nicholas Clark with SCSO said there is no problem with LES crossing guards doing a parade as long as everyone practices social distancing to keep everyone safe, said Mrs. Cartwright.
Once again her husband Joe Cartwright will be the driver as Mrs. Cartwright winds through the Lakeland streets wearing her school crossing guard uniform.
Joining Mrs. Cartwright’s parade in their vehicles will be crossing guards Denise Macke, Jeanette Owens and Marin Blackburne.
