Three hundred saplings will be distributed to local residents during an Arbor Day celebration from 3:30 – 5 p.m. April 26 at the City Hall Pavilion, 10001 U.S. Highway 70.
Kevin Rooney, director of the Parks and Recreation Department, said, “Shawn Posey from the Tennessee State Forestry Service will be present to discuss the benefits of trees in our neighborhoods and answer questions about the proper planting and care of trees.”
The event will demonstrate Lakeland’s designation as an Official Tree City USA community, said Mr. Rooney. It is the 13th year for the designation for Lakeland.
Three hundred saplings will be distributed to local residents courtesy of the Tennessee Division of Forestry. The saplings to be given way will consist of 100 Indigobushs, 100 Shumard Oaks and 100 Sugarberrys, said Mr. Rooney. “Individuals will be expected to plant these trees around Lakeland to help perpetuate our reputation for natural scenic beauty and caring for the environment.”
