Veterans Day celebrations are planned for both schools in the Lakeland School System (LSS) in November.
The day is observed annually on Nov. 11 to honor military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces.
Lakeland Elementary School (LES) has the first programs on Nov. 9. Kristin Nichols, second grader teacher who is coordinating the programs, said the first presentation will be for grades two through four at 9:30 a.m. This will feature the LMPS string orchestra, Arlington High School Band and the LES GLEE Club.
The second program will begin at 11:45 a.m. for grades prekindergarten, kindergarten and first. “This program will feature all the students at Lakeland Elementary as they will be performing for our Veterans along with a few children from our Glee Club and the LMPS band,” said Mrs. Nichols. Both programs are in the school gym.
The next day, Nov. 10, will be the program at LMPS, a first, since the middle school just opened this school year.
It starts at 9:50 a.m., is in the school gym and is coordinated by faculty member Leann Albert.
“This will be a schoolwide program,” said Miss Albert. “We will have a guest speaker and our fifth graders, choir, band and orchestra will be performing. All students will participate in some way. Our fifth grade will wear red, sixth grade will wear white, and our seventh and eighth graders will wear blue.
“Parents are welcome as always,” added Miss Albert.
