Two LMPS concerts scheduled May 10; Another Concert May 6

The LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) Orchestra and LMPS Choirs will perform in their spring concerts at 6:30 p.m. May 10.

The “Sweet Music” Orchestra performance will be in the LMPS Cafetorium.  A dessert reception of ice cream sundaes and other sweet treats will follow the performance.  Orchestra director is Paula Turner.  Suggested donation is $5, according to Mrs. Turner.

All LMPS Choirs — 5th Grade Mane Melody Singers, 5th Grade Choir, 7th Grade Choir and 8th Grade Combined Concert Choir and Honor Choir — will perform in the Spring Choral Concert at St. Paul Methodist Church, 2949 Davies Plantation Road in Lakeland.

Tonya Miller, choir director, said there is a $5 suggested donation for the program.

Earlier that week, at 3:30 p.m. May 6, LMPS Beginning and Concert Bands, will premiere a new musical piece commissioned by the City of Lakeland to celebrate the history of the City.

The performance will be at The LAMP inside IH Park, 4523 Canada Rd. Cost for the concert is free and food will be available for purchase from MEMPopS, Just Wraps and Memphis Mojo Café.

The music title is “Garner Lake Portrait” and the event is designated as “Launching the Lakeland Legacy: A Spring Concert Celebration.”

According to Anneliese Land, band director at LMPS, the concert “… will celebrate the inaugural year for LMPS with the premier of a work commissioned by the City that celebrates the history of Lakeland.”

This is the first year for spring musical concerts.   The middle school opened to students, grades 5-8, in August 2017.  Lakeland Elementary School serves grades K-4.  Lakeland students go to Arlington High School through an interlocal agreement until a high school can be built in Lakeland.
