It was just in time for Earth Day and her 20th wedding anniversary.
Jennifer Hill dropped by the Corner Shops in Lakeland yesterday (4.21.20) to pick up her free tree sapling to commemorate her anniversary, the 50th anniversary of Earth Day (today) and being under quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She was among a line of cars waiting for the saplings as well as pre-orders from Chicken Salad Chick which came to Lakeland for the second time this month to deliver pre-ordered, pre-purchased salads to the community.
Pat O’Mara, the new director of the Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department (P&R), partnered with Commissioner Michele Dial to give out 120 saplings free to those who came by. The choices were nuttal oak, common button bush, American red bud and tulip.
The trees were provided by the Tennessee Environmental Council through P&R.
Commissioner Dial said P&R was planning an Earth Day and tree sapling event but it had to be cancelled because of closures related to the pandemic.
So the next best choice, said Mrs. Dial, was to give away the saplings as people came for their Chicken Salad Chick (CSC) orders. “Enjoy your CSC during a picnic for Earth Day,” she said. “As the years pass, you will always remember planting the tree on this special anniversary of Earth Day as the one where we all stayed home.”
The East Memphis restaurant delivered about 60 pre-ordered meals Tuesday. Commissioner Michele Dial spearheaded the eatery coming to the City as a way to have something different during difficult times. CSC delivered to 85 meals in Lakeland April 1st at the same location.
