(UPDATED: THP confirms fatality in US-64 accident.)
A Memphis man was killed and a Lakeland woman was injured in a head-on crash this morning (9.4.19) near Sprouts Farmers Market, 9050 U.S. Highway 64 in Lakeland.
Sgt. Chris Richardson with the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said the 20-year-old man from Memphis was traveling East on US-64 when his SUV crossed over into westbound traffic, striking head-on a westbound pick-up driven by a 20-year-old Lakeland woman.
The man died at the scene, Sgt. Richardson said. The woman was transported to Regional One. No names have been released pending notification of next of kin. The pickup truck rolled over on its side and the SUV was heavily damaged.
US-64 was closed to traffic at Fletcher Trace Parkway while first responders were on the scene. THP is investigating the accident. The Memphis Fire Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident.
