TLD – Work progressing today despite new water feature

There is a new lake at TLD (The Lake District) at I-40 and Canada Road in Lakeland.

Yehuda Netanel, developer for the upscale, mixed-use project, said today (2.26.19), “There’s a brand new lake at The Lake District. It’s covering asphalt. We’ve never had water ponding like this before.”

The “new lake” is a result of recent rains in the Memphis area which flooded streets and overflowed local rivers beyond their banks last week.

Because of the flooding, the bulldozers cannot operate on the site.   “Our bulldozers cannot float in the mud very well,” said Mr. Netanel.

But there are workers on the site today.  “Our crews are clarifying the retention ponds so we do not violate state law,” said Mr. Netanel.  “We’ve spent almost $45,000 so we don’t discharge muddy water into the drains.”

As owner of the entire 160-acre site, Mr. Netanel said The Lake District will open mid-2020 with the first phase of five districts including residential, retail, hotel, office and a Main Street district.  Mr. Netanel said the City of Lakeland has six-inches of approved plans for TLD.

The community was planned to surround a 10-acre land and waterways, but not the new lake on site today, said Mr. Netanel.
