A letter was sent today (12.6.19) to Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division (MLGW), requesting the utility rebrand the Stonebridge/MLGW water tower with the Lakeland city logo.
Shane A. Horn, city manager, sent a letter to J.T. Young, president and CEO of MLGW, expressing the City’s interest in the rebranding from Stonebridge subdivision to the City logo.
In the letter, Mr. Horn said he understands that MLGW is planning to repair the water tower which is visible on I-40 near Lakeland as well as various areas throughout the City.
He said both the City and the Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce believe repainting the water tower would be a unique opportunity to increase the City’s visibility in the community and market its recently updated logo.
To assist with the project, the Chamber is willing to pay a portion of the repainting expenses if the City logo is included in the new design.
With the Chamber’s commitment, the Lakeland Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution Nov. 14th supporting the Chamber’s efforts and expressing support for the rebranding. A certified copy of the resolution was included with the letter to MLGW.
