From Jim Atkinson, Lakeland city manager:”
The planned opening of Beverle Rivera Road today (8.14.17) has been delayed due to weather.
On Saturday (8.12.17), the contractor completed grading the shoulder gravel, leaving barrier rail installation and lane striping for Monday. As part of the lane striping, there is grinding that needs to occur to remove existing markings. Removing existing markings and adding new lane striping is required to occur at the same time, so the lane markings and directional arrows are clear to drivers, and there is never a time where there are no markings present.
Given the forecast, the contractor believed it was unlikely to complete both the grinding and striping before the rain started. While there is more rain in the forecast this week, the contractor is hopeful the work will be completed in the next few days. Message boards will be present to notify drivers of the lane shift.
