It’s been mostly quiet on the western front for the upcoming Lakeland election. Unlike the contested Germantown and Bartlett elections all candidates are running unopposed for the local Lakeland positions. In Lakeland running for Mayor is Josh Roman who previously served as Commissioner and Vice Mayor. For the two Commissioner positions, Michele Dial who is currently Vice Mayor, and Connie McCarter. For School Board, Keith Acton, Laura Harrison, and Deborah Thomas are all running unopposed.
One position that does have electoral competition involving Lakeland is Tennessee House, District 95. Kevin Vaughan, incumbent and Republican, of Collierville is running for re-election against Patricia Causey, Democrat, of Lakeland.
Another wrinkle is in the early voting location for Lakeland Tennessee. For a long time, the established location was The Refuge Church and residents have become familiar with the location. For the most recent August election another location was chosen but it was outside Lakeland city limits at Christian Life Church on Davies Plantation Road. That was met with mixed reviews by residents mostly because it made Lakeland the only town without any early voting location. This year the Shelby County Commission has chosen the IH Clubhouse on Canada Road for the early voting, a location most are familiar with. However, that location might provide its own challenges with ingress, egress, and parking. Lakeland residents can vote early at any location in Shelby County but on election day the voting takes place, for most residents, at First Baptist Church Lakeland or St Paul UMC.
Early Voting Days:
October 19 – November 3
Lakeland Early Voting Location:
IH Clubhouse, 4523 Canada Rd.
