Imaginative costumes and memorable music brought “The Lion King Kids” to stage at the LES (Lakeland Elementary School) cafeteria tonight (2.9.19).
The 77-member cast sang and danced about the stage and through the cafeteria to bring the musical to parents, grandparents, siblings and friends.

With seven crew members, the performance shared the story of the African savannah as characters journeyed through the jungle in the coming-of-age tale.
The musical was directed and choreographed by LES 4th grade teacher Kristen Newton with Robin Smith, music teacher, as assistant director and sponsored by the LES PTA and Drama Club.

Ms. Newton said the show was selected last spring and students started practicing in October. The 85 students included four-year-olds to fourth graders. LES serves students grades PK-4.
“It was totally worth it,” Ms. Newton said tonight to those in the filled cafeteria.

The performance ended with cheers, applause, a standing ovation and flowers and gifts bestowed on the young actors and actresses and stage crew.
