The calendar says it’s SPRING

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the closures and the social distancing, the season of Spring arrives today with the promise of warmer temperatures and brightly colored spring blossoms.

The spring equinox (March equinox or vernal equinox) occurs at 10:50 p.m. CDT today (3.19.20). The event marks the astronomical first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

According to The Old Farmers’ Almanac, this is the earliest vernal equinox in 124 years. Typically the spring equinox has occurred March 20th or 21st.  The equinox this year occurs on March 19th in all time zones, making it the earliest spring since 1896.

For the next three years, spring will begin on March 20th.

The summer solstice is at 4:44 a.m. CDT June 20th,  the longest day and shortest night.

According to weather.com, today’s forecast is for thunderstorms late afternoon and evening with a high of 78° and a low of 68°.
