Tax Freeze, Tax Relief Application Deadline Extended in Shelby County

The new deadline for to submit tax freeze/tax relief applications to the Shelby County Trustee’s office is May 6th, according to Marnie Stewart, media contact with the Trustee’s office

On March 25, the Supreme Court of Tennessee issued an order which included an extension of certain statutory deadlines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has determined this should apply to tax freeze and tax relief deadlines.

“We are so pleased that our seniors, disabled citizens, and disabled veterans will not have to risk coming out in the midst of this pandemic and will have extra time to complete and send in their Tax Freeze and Tax Relief documentation.” Shelby County Trustee Regina Morrison Newman said. “Our office has staff here ready to answer questions and help our citizens by phone to finalize their applications.”

Qualifying guidelines for these programs are:

TAX FREEZE TAX RELIEF
Must be 65 years or older Must be 65 years or older, or have a total & permanent disability rating (regardless of age), or qualify as a disabled veteran
Own and live in a home in Shelby County that is your primary residence Own and live in a home in Shelby County that is your primary residence
Combined income  limit of $39,250 of applicant and their spouse and all other owners Income of $29,860 or less (no income limit for veterans)

Taxpayers can contact the Trustee’s Office at 222-0200 to inquire about applications for Tax Freeze and Tax Relief.
