The summer of baseball has ended for youth in the City of Lakeland Parks and Recreation programs, according to Wendi Haley, recreation program supervisor.
“The City of Lakeland Parks and Rec had a great season of summer T-Ball and Coach Pitch Baseball,” she said.
“Practices began in May with games in June and July. The kids ranged in age from 3 year and 4-5 year-old T-Ball to 6-7 year-old and 8-9 year-old Coach Pitch.
“What a great season was had by all, as everyone really learned the fundamentals of baseball, how to play as a team, and good sportsmanship.”
She said teams participated in the Memphis Redbirds Gameday Experience July 17. “Our kids were able to be in the parade around the field before the game, waving to friends and family. Then, they all got to make a High 5 Tunnel for the Redbirds players. And several players even got to go out onto the field positions and stand with the players for the singing of the National Anthem.
“We wrapped up the season with a Pizza Picnic for each group! And some even brought CAKE!
“Thank you to all of the volunteer coaches and to the parents for making this season one to remember.
“We hope to see everyone back next summer.”
