Substitute Teachers Needed At Lakeland Schools

Lakeland School System is currently looking to fill multiple substitute teacher positions at both Lakeland Preparatory School as well as Lakeland Elementary.

Speaking with Lakeland Currents today, Dr. Ted Horrell, Supervisor of Lakeland School System said, “We’ve had what we consider a successful return to school this school year in terms of both student and staff cases, and the quality of instruction that is happening in the building and in our remote learning program. One of the main challenges currently is having enough substitutes to cover absences in the building.”

Dr. Horrell made it clear the need for additional teachers is safety-related. “We err on the side of caution when it comes to asking teachers and staff to stay at home if there’s been a possible exposure. That means more teachers may be absent than usual at a given time. We also know some regular subs may not be comfortable working in the building at the time due to the pandemic” Dr. Horrell added.

How To Apply

“We urge anyone who’s ever thought about applying to do so and give it a try,” Dr. Horrell said, “even if individuals are only available one or two days a week, we could definitely use the help, and it helps us increase the chances of keeping our schools open all year.”
