Stressful testing at LMPS rewarded with teacher lunches, student treats this week

It’s been a hectic two weeks at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) during statewide TNReady testing.  So the City of Lakeland and area businesses wanted to do something for the teachers.

They sponsored lunches this week (4.23-4.27.18) for all the teachers and today (4.27.18) students and teachers were rewarded with an ice cream truck treat.

The TNReady testing started in Lakeland and around the state April 16 but was halted two days because of a statewide failure of the Tennessee online testing platform. The online platform was used at LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School) where the testing was halted.  Because LES (Lakeland Elementary School) students are taking their TN Ready tests using paper and pencil, the issues did not impact testing there.

Testing struggles continued this week and LMPS had to move the final testing component to Monday (4.30.18).

Kevin Floyd, chair of LSB, wrote a letter to the Tennessee Education Commissioner and Governor about his frustration and disappointment with the situation.  See link to story and letter: https://lakelandcurrents.com/tnready-testing-at-lmps-uncertain-according-to-superintendent/

Sensing the struggles of the teachers, the businesses contacted the LMPS PTO about sponsoring the lunches. Cindy Davis, PTO president, said, “The PTO was contacted by a group of local businesses that wanted to sponsor lunches this week for all the teachers and administration at LMPS.

“They were aware of the struggles with the TNReady testing last week and really wanted to boost the morale of the LMPS staff.

“Each day a different business sponsored lunch and the PTO arranged to have it delivered and ready for their lunchtime. Parents of our students also brought in drinks and desserts each day.

“Even though this isn’t our Teacher Appreciation Week, I think the teachers all feel appreciated.”

The sponsoring businesses were:

City of Lakeland                                                        Wil Ashworth – State Farm

Kevin Bailey – Fireworks City                                   Kevin Floyd – Floyd Law Firm

Josh Roman – Allstate Insurance

“We are so grateful to these businesses for supporting our teachers and staff,” said Mrs. Davis.

Today, the PTO rewarded all the hard work of the students and teachers by bringing in the Lickety Split Ice Cream Truck, said Mrs. Davis.   “Each student was allowed to pick an item from the truck and enjoy it after their lunch time. We are so excited to be able to reward the students for their patience and perseverance during these two weeks of testing.”
