Stolen vehicle spotted in Lakeland ends with crash tonight in Bartlett

SCSO in Lakeland tonight after stolen car incident

A reported stolen vehicle found in Lakeland tonight (7.9.19) led to a chase to Bartlett, a crash and an apprehended suspect with minor injuries.

Capt. Anthony Buckner with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said a stolen white Dodge Ram was spotted near the Econo Lodge in Lakeland on Huff ‘N Puff Road.

SCSO deputies approached the suspect who was armed but did not fire.  Shots were fired by the SCSO before the suspect fled, according to Capt. Bucker.   The suspect, who has not been identified, crashed the pickup truck at Yale Road and Brother Boulevard.  The suspect fled into a wooded area and was apprehended, said Capt. Buckner.

No one was shot during the incident and the suspect was taken to Regional One Health with minor injuries suffered during the crash.

Capt. Buckner said the investigation continues as to why the suspect was in Lakeland and details about the stolen truck.

There were SCSO vehicles damaged as well as three civilian vehicles. Capt. Buckner said he was happy no civilians were injured nor were any deputies injured.  He said damage to all damaged vehicles is being assessed. Damage to the SCSO cars happened during the chase between the two cities.

Asked what charges the suspect might face, Capt. Buckner said numerous felony charges. Capt. Buckner did not know if the incident involved drugs.
