*UPDATE: THE HOMECOMING LAMP EVENT WAS CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER*

Rainy weather could put a damper on the final LAMP concert of the season tomorrow night (9.22.18).

Kevin Rooney, director of the Lakeland Parks and Recreation Department, said this afternoon he was monitoring the rain forecast for tomorrow.

“We have been monitoring the forecast, and the next 36 hours are calling for a good amount of rain,” said Mr. Rooney.  “I am meeting with the band and sound engineer tomorrow around 1:30 p.m. to check the conditions of the park, and see what the forecast looks like for the evening. At that time we will decide if we are going to go on with the show or not.”

He said a decision will be made by 2 p.m. and an announcement will be made on social media.

“If the show does go on, but the conditions of the park don’t seem safe for all of the kids we will still cancel the Homecoming portion of the night. We are hoping it doesn’t come to either scenario, but we wanted to be prepared in case we get a lot of rain.”

The concert runs from 7 – 10 p.m. at the outdoor amphitheater at IH Park.  Besides two live bands (Ted Horrell & the Monday Night Card and Bluff City Bandits), the evening is to be a Lakeland Homecoming with presentation of youth football players from the City Parks and Recreation programs and LMPS (Lakeland Middle Preparatory School).

There will be an inflatable and balloon magic for children along with the City snack bar and a food truck.

Rain or shine, the Lakeland Senior Center will have their open house and arts and crafts fair.
