“A Soulful Night to Remember”, the first ever Shelby County Senior Prom, was hosted by County Mayor Lee Harris on Monday, June 3, 2019. The event, for citizens aged 60+, was held at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, 926 E. McLemore in Memphis, and had more than 400 in attendance.
The free event included free food, a champagne toast, live entertainment from the Garry Goin Group (G3) and door prizes. The event was supported by the Aging Commission of the Mid-South, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, the Plough Foundation, T-Star Limousines, Memphis Area Transit Authority, Holiday Flowers, Kaptivating Moments Photo Booth, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Shelby County Support Services and Mayor’s office volunteers.
In attendance were Lakeland residents Larry and Barbara Taylor, as well as Mike and Pauline Sexton, Shelby County residents who participate in Lakeland Senior Center activities.
