The Shelby County Health Department (SCHD) began the annual Back-to-School Immunization drive today (6.24.19), according to Joan Carr, public information officer for SCHD.
Children enrolling in child care facilities, those entering preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten; those starting seventh grade; students transferring from schools outside of Tennessee; and students entering institutes of higher education, including the University of Memphis, all may require vaccinations. The Shelby County Health Department’s Immunization Program can provide those vaccinations and assist with required documentation.
No appointment is required for immunization-only clinic visits either at the Immunization Clinic at 814 Jefferson or at the satellite Health Department clinics listed below. Please bring the child’s complete vaccination records and up-to-date insurance information to the clinic.

Ms. Carr said, “If they have insurance, we ask them to bring their insurance card, and the Health Department will bill their insurance. If they don’t, they will be charged on a sliding fee scale based on income level. Many children qualify for a federal program called Vaccines for Children that provides the vaccines at no cost to the family.”
The Shelby County Health Department also provides child care and school physical exams, by appointment only at all of the clinics listed above. Call 222-9980 for an appointment for a physical exam. The cost for child care and school physicals is $85, which includes any required immunizations.
