Thousands of feet of sewer lines in Stonebridge are being inspected by the City in preparation for Lakeland to acquire the lines from Memphis.
Emily Harrell, P.E., CPESC, city engineer, said Lakeland staff started sewer video inspection Monday (2.12.18) and the project will take about a month. A van with a monitor is used for the inspections and is contracted through Performance Contracting Inc. (PCI) from Knoxville.
Under the supervision of Matt Brown, City chief inspector, John Wade and Chad Savage with PCI were working at El Hill Road and Davies Plantation Road today (2.15.18) and moving west toward Stonebridge Golf Club.
“Most all access will be through manholes on public streets. The purpose is to assess the condition of the lines and identify maintenance, if any. The lines are currently owned and maintained by Memphis. However the City (Lakeland) will be acquiring them in the near future.
“We are inspecting to find out the condition so that we can negotiate price if repairs are needed. I also want to know how to budget going forward when we do acquire the assets. The City typically conducts a video inspection annually on sections of its sewer line.”
Mrs. Harrell said the total length of the line being inspected is 38,853 feet, including 196 manholes. “This will cover all of Stonebridge except the EL Hill area and Fairway Meadows as they were done in a previous project. We will negotiate with Memphis once the inspection is done. Most likely we will be able to reduce the cost of the assets rather than have them conduct the repairs.”
The video inspection can reach lateral lengths of 800 feet. Before this technology, a pole cam (camera on a pole) was used for the inspections, said Mr. Brown.
